Lab 1 – Data

Today we are working on data – both how to capture aspects of the world as data and how to represent patterns in that data visually.

Deliverables

For the first lab, you will be finishing up the work we started in class to represent some aspect of the world in terms of data. There are four elements of the lab:

  1. Complete the “Learning to See” section of Observe, Collect, Draw!
  2. Take a picture of the exercise that you either like the most or had the hardest time with.
  3. Using our data from class (my travel log), create a schema (set of rules) for visualizing some aspect of the data. For extra credit, try creating a visualization using that schema and take a picture.
  4. Create a blog post on https://blogs.religion.ua.edu/rel315/. In 250 words or less, identify which exercise you chose to highlight in step 2 and why, and describe the schema you would use to visualize some aspect of my data from class. Include the pictures you took in the blog post. Finally, identify which 3 exercises you will be doing for your Data Diaries project.

Assign your post the category “Lab” and tag your post “Lab 1”.

Due Friday, September 2, at midnight. To submit in Blackboard, paste the URL of your blog post into the submission field.
